We make conscious choices about our materials.

ORGANIC COTTON

From the very beginning, we have made the conscious decision to exclusively use 100% organic cotton. This cotton is grown from non-genetically modified (non-GMO) seeds and cultivated without the use of chemical pesticides and fertilizers.

Initially, our organic cotton was sourced solely from India. However, since 2021, we have expanded our sourcing to include suppliers from other countries, such as Turkey.

On a global scale, only a small fraction of the cotton produced each year is organic. By cultivating organic cotton, we ensure that no harmful chemicals find their way into the soil, rivers, lakes, or seas. This means that the water used for organic farming is not lost but can be reused and safely returned to the soil and other water sources. The overall positive impact on water, soil, and biodiversity ensures the well-being and livelihood of cotton farmers and their communities are respected and protected.

Benefits of organic cotton compared to conventional cotton:

26% Less potential for soil erosion

46% Less impact on global warming

70% Less acidification of land and water

91% Less water consumption

GOTS CERTIFICATION

The Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS) is a certification based on both ecological and social criteria. It guarantees that the cotton is organically grown without the use of genetically modified seeds or any harmful chemical products.

In all our collections, we have chosen to work exclusively with 100% GOTS certified organic cotton. Transaction certificates at each stage of the production confirm the traceability and organic content of our products, from the raw materials post-harvest to the final customer.

GOING BEYOND CERTIFICATION

In our commitment to responsibly source cotton, we go beyond GOTS certification to consistently provide our customers with high-quality organic cotton:

Organic: If the organic content constitutes at least 95% of the product weight. Most of our t-shirts are certified organic as their organic content exceeds 95%.

Made with 85% organic materials: If the organic content falls between 70% and 95% of the product weight. Many of our sweatshirts are certified as being made with 85% organic materials.

The remaining 15% of the material composition consists of sustainable fibers, which are natural or recycled.

RECYCLED COTTON

We strive to minimize product waste during production and aim for circular business models, with recycled cotton playing a crucial role.

Since 2017, we have incorporated recycled cotton into our accessories range. Over time, we have expanded our range of recycled cotton products and even started utilizing our fabric-cutting waste to create new items. For example, our RE-Creator, RE-Blaster, and RE-Cruiser products are partially made using recycled organic cotton from our cutting waste.

Here’s the process:

Step 1: Cutting waste from our production is collected in our partner factories.

Step 2: The fabric is finely shredded in a spinning mill and then blended with virgin organic cotton.

Step 3: The fibers are spun into new yarn, which is knitted into durable fabric.

Step 4: Our RE-Creator t-shirt is a 50/50 blend of recycled organic cotton from our cutting waste and undyed organic cotton, resulting in a natural heather effect. Through material reuse and the absence of dyeing, we minimize energy, water, and chemical requirements compared to traditional production processes. Stanley/Stella’s RE-Range and production facilities are GRS certified.
